My Savior’s Name is Jesus by Trip Lee

History in the Making

Our generation will never be forgotten.  What we are witnessing right now is something for the history books.  You probably already know what it is that I’m speaking of, the Presidential election.  There may be a black president, or there may be a female vice president.  One of these is sure to happen.  On top of that, there are already projected to be record turnouts with more young people voting than ever.  We are indeed witnessing an historic event.

Our country has been wrapped up in this election for 21 months full of debate and rising tension.  I have to admit that I have been glued to the screen and the little bit of TV I get to watch is always CNN or some news channel checking on the election.  What is Obama saying now?  What is McCain doing?  Who do they think won the debate?  And so on.  But it is finally is coming to a close.  Why the record numbers?  Why the countrywide interest?

Why the Interest?

Nobody denies that our country is in a terrible place.  Gas prices are too high, we are still in this war, people are losing their homes and retirement, people can’t afford healthcare, the stock market is doing terrible.  Cats are hurting and searching for a solution.  The thought of a new leader doing new things has the American people eagerly awaiting a hero.  Some hope for McCain, others for Obama, others an independent candidate.

Fallen Solutions to the Problems of the Fall

But the way that some are awaiting this change is a great example of our human tendency to put our hope in false saviors.  We know things are terrible and we are desperately looking for someone to fix things.  Someone to take away the bad times, someone to help us not to hurt anymore.  Someone to ensure a stable future.  But I fear that too many of us are expecting them to do things they simply are not capable of.  Obama may bring change, McCain may bring reform, but neither of them can take our suffering away, or secure our futures.  Neither of them are the hope for the Christian.  We vote because God put government in place for a reason (Romans 13) and we are citizens of this country.  We should indeed be concerned and vote for the one we think will best help government to play it’s role in God’s world.

These men, though they may be powerful and may be intelligent, are just as incapable of saving this world as you are.  There will continue to be suffering, and pain, and death until the Lord Jesus, the real Savior, makes all things new.  In the book of Revelation speaking of the new Heavens and new Earth John says, ” And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”  Jesus is the only hero capable of this.  I’m not one of those who says, “This world is passing away anyway so forget about it.  Don’t vote, don’t help, just preach”  But the other extreme is hoping in this earth and committing the grievous sin of idolatry.

The Conclusion

Vote for your choice, but hold it with an open hand.  And make sure your hope is in the Lord Jesus.  God is sovereign and His providence never misses a beat.  And if things continue to get worse, continue to hope in Jesus.  He knows what He’s doing. He is the only true hero.  He is my Savior.  He will make all things new.

And another thing sets Him apart. There is no vote, no electoral college, no primary.  Whether the majority in America realizes it or not, He reigns and always will reign as THE King and Ruler.

What is your Savior’s name?

A much needed Word. All of America needs to realize this. A man is not going to save us, only Christ can do that.

Thank you for that, I wish it was on more than just this blog because people need to hear this. I have believed with no doubt that Obama is our next president, I have prayed for both him and McCain, and that they both will be able to listen to god and his direction. The next president will be able to do a little in the world, through god, but forever and always GOD is my president. No matter who is in that office, how bad they make it, or how good they make it, there is only one I will pray to and only one I will honor because through it all he is the one who will keep u, thats Jesus Christ our lord!! So I appreciate you putting the word out about this election.

Grace and Peace

Amen! Ain't but one righteous KING and his name is Jesus. But something that concernns me about the church in this vote is all the division that I see and hear. According to God's word, in Christ we are UNITED through the Holy Spirit, but yet there are so many votes being casted by the PROFESSING church based on selfish opinions and ambitions and not on the Word of God. I know neither of their platforms are perfect, but when held up to the Bible there is no question who the child of God should be voting for. Especially when one of the candidates who PROFESSES to know Christ says that there are different ways to God. Jesus destroyed that futile thought in John 14:6. I just pray the church will Live by and vote by the Holy Word of God. Because we as the church are responsible to PROCLAIM TRUTH to the nation.

In Christ,
Nate (Isaiah 26:3)

Great note bro! I watched this campaign and I didn't know who to vote for until the last minute but I was thinking about this last week. You know, how no matter who gets in office and how many promises they make, they can't be a fix all. Christ is the only Fix All I know and that's the business, lol! Good word fam!

I totally agree with you. America has put too much hope in this election. But God "is the only true hero". Although this has been an interesting, amazing, and historical presidential race, I realize that GOD is my Savior, and only He will get me through these rough times. Even if He does use President-elect Obama, I know it is He who delivers His people. You were right on! My Savior's Name is Jesus!

Simply put, "The Lord Jesus Christ", unless that was rhetorical.

Jeremiah 8, 18 - The Lord is my Comfort (President), but my Heart is Sick at this world in which We Live.

In this world everybody's lookin' for Glory but they don't know about the real story, N' down in Hollywood everybodys lookin' fo' fame but the media doesn't depict that thier lives are Lame and full of Pain.

In this messed up world all I see is pain, In this mess up world all I see is shame amongst the blind the deaf the crippled and the Lame, so many people crying n' dying to know the name of JESUS.

Get Rich or Die trying, man those words a got momma'z cryin' cos they're sons are dying running round the streets trying to be a thug, next thing you know they've gone and caught a slug! A bullet to the heart they were dead from the start, thier lifes been reduced to a statistic on a chart.

But theres Good news some call it the Gospel, Goods people embrace it others Get hostile, JESUS CHRIST he can redeem your heart you better let him do it now before it falls apart

(But Theres Good news some call it the Gospel..others get hostile. borrowed from Lecrae)

Amen to that, that also caught my attention, because, yes, Obama is the first African American president, but at the same time, I have noticed that many people seem to idolize him like he is some kind of savior, he's face is everywhere, some people cry when they see him, and people are naming their children after him, so I have noticed that lately. Yes, I did vote for him, the first black president, and history has been made in America, but I have always remind myself as well, that the only savior and the only person we should really love, worship, and idolize is Jesus Christ, our lord and savior, he is the true HOPE.

Isn't our God amazing? We think of siciafrce as giving up good stuff for God when what God REALLY wants, is all the BAD stuff we try to manage on our own! We think of God as deserving our very best (and he does!) and how we lay that on the altar-our time, our giftings, our abilities as an act of worship to Him. What blows my mind is that God asks me to give him my anger, my bitterness, my selfish desires and all the things that are unholy and corrupted on that very same altar. If someone gave me a bag of cr*p I'd hardly be happy and yet our God asks for just that-our bag of cr*p!!
