Being Careful How We Share the Gospel.

Posted by REACHLIFE

A fellow 116 Clique member posted an excellent article on the 116 forum recently. In it, he shares from a message given by Todd Friel on “13 Evangelistic Phrases That Produce False Conversions”.

It’s an excellent reminder that we need to be careful how we share the gospel with others. Although we may think we are being clear in what is required for conversion, sometimes we fall into using language that is very unclear to the unbeliever.

Read through these points he gives and let us know your comments below.

1. Make Jesus your Lord and Savior.
We cannot make Jesus our Lord and Savior, He is our Lord and Savior. We are living in rebellion to Him and He commands us to repent and trust Him.

2. Ask Jesus into your heart.
Does Jesus come into our hearts? Yes He does. The question is, “How does He get in there?” It is not by simply asking Him in; it is by repentance and faith.

3. Just believe in Jesus.
The demons believe and they tremble. We must repent and trust.

4. You have a God-shaped hole in your heart and only Jesus can fill it.
We have far more than a hole that needs to be filled so we can feel complete; we have a wretched, deceitful, sinful heart that needs cleansing. Repentance and faith applies the blood of the lamb for that cleansing.

5. Accept Jesus.
Whoa. We need to accept Jesus? This is entirely backward. We need Jesus to accept us-and He will, if we repent and trust.

6. Make a decision for Jesus.
Decisional regeneration puts man in the driver’s seat of salvation. When we repent and trust, Jesus decides to save us. That puts Him in the driver’s seat…where He demands.

7. It is easy to believe.
While the formula of repentance and faith sounds simple, a complete surrendering of self in repentance is anything but easy. It’s hard.

8. God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.
The only promises for the convert are trials, temptation and persecution. If that is how you define a wonderful life, fine. Otherwise we must command all men everywhere to repent and trust.

9. Come to Jesus just as you are.
We should come to Jesus just as the sinners we are, but He also expects a broken heart and contrite spirit demonstrated in repentance and faith.

10. Come to Jesus and you will receive forgiveness of sins and __________. (fill in the blank with money, health, a healed marriage).
Jesus didn’t promise healed marriages; in fact He promised broken homes because we would divide when one member repents and trusts.

11. Come to Jesus and experience love, joy, peace.
Do we get the fruit of the Spirit upon conversion? Yes. But if we come seeking the gifts and not the giver, we will receive neither. Instead, we must repent and trust.

12. Jesus is the missing piece.
Um, no, the God of the universe is not the missing piece, He demands that He is the center of our lives when we repent and trust.

13. Jesus is better than fame and fortune.
That is an understatement, and frankly, it is insulting. Saying Jesus is better than money is like saying that a steak dinner is better than eating a dung hill. He defies comparison and we trivialize the Son of God. Instead, we should be pleading with all men everywhere to repent and trust.

Remember, all of these statements are true in their proper context. We just need to make sure we are defining for people what they truly mean. Hope this helps in your witnessing!

This whole post hit my heart . A lot of time we want to win souls to christ but we dont see that we have to produce faithful men and women in christ. Quanity is not what God is after because people fall away it is quality. Sometimes not meaning to we dont give converts the full scoop of what is really going on. So when they get out of a safe place (being around others in the faith) as soon as the wind blows they fall because of the half truths we have told them and because we get them saved and desert them. This is truly accidental but it happens. God Bless you for your words I know when I witness it will never be the same again because some of those things I have said with good intent but wondered why my final result in my recruitment for christ was a backslidder. SO THANK YOU!

I loved everything you guys said. So many people seem to forget the first words Jesus said when He began His ministry..."Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Check this! God has been showing me in Hebrews 5 and first part of 6 concerning the oracles of God. Brothers I'm so convinced that we need to know and teach these principles or we are in danger of falling away. If you look at the 6 principles you will see how the enemy has atacked the faith in all these areas. And not to mention that many christians today can't even teach them. My encouragement to all is that you revisit the oracles because as Paul mentions, without them we can not even discern between good and evil. Thus we can never mature in Christ and never "digest" the deeper, the meat, of God's Holy Word. Peace

god bless yall
the bible says in the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established and i think that due to alack of studying the word of god has been misinterpreted 1corinthians 2:10,16 clarifies that any one without spirit cannot fully comprehend the deep things of god yet alone being called a child of god like romans 6:9 declares for example if a sinner man wants to be born again is he truly justified with repentance alone because scripture refutes that jesus said in john 3:5 exept a man is born again of the water and the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of god so as paul is writeing the epistle to the churches they all completed these essentials so when a person ask me how can i be save i lead them to acts 2:38 because thats when they put into practice the things that jesus taught them so i feel ya lecrae people have to be careful about the things they say like jesus said search the scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life john 5:39 peace god bless yall

I don't agree with some of this. Point 8 for example, God DOES have a wonderful plan for our lives. Trials and persecution are part of that plan, yes, BUT everything God gives us is for our good. Paul rejoiced in his "infirmities", so should we - we should never say that God's plan isn't wonderful because it includes persecution. Can I even think to say that God's plan for Christ wasn't wonderful because it led Him to the cross???

Some of his points are valid, exposing the "fluff" we add to Christianity for society's sake. But in reaching the lost, we can't come at them like they're Christians. What do they need to know about persecution if they're a spiritual "fetus"? That's like telling an infant about financial aid for college - it's pointless when there isn't even basic knowledge present.

Overall, I think this is a harsh and restricted way of presenting the gospel. I understand where he's coming from, but he seems to overlook the purpose of discipleship. All information about the Christian walk isn't given at conversion, it's a gradual maturation.

Robin
– Aug 22 2007

I will respond to the point on what does a spiritual fetus need to know about persecution. It was explained to me like this : A man is on an airplane and is given a parachute he is told to put it on so he does they tell him the reason he has it on is to improve his flight it will bring him joy peace hapiness so he puts it on. He immediately realizes that he cant sit up all the way the whole time he is very uncomfortable. Then he realizes the other passengers are laughing at him and making fun of him so he takes it off. As far as he was concerned someone told him an outright lie and it will be a long time before someone gets another one of them on him again. Then there was another man he was told to put the parachute on but for a different reason they told him that sometime during this flight he was going to have to jump 25,000 feet out of the plane so he puts it on. He doesnt realize he cant sit up he doesnt realize that people are laughing and making fun of him because he knows he is wearing it to save him from sure death he keeps it on he is grateful to those who gave it to him think about it

shaunta
– Aug 22 2007

The reality is, nobody is given a parachute without being taught how to use it and being told why they are using it. I took issue with saying God's plan for us isn't necessarily beautiful because it entails persecution and pain. Also, I don't believe in bringing up future persecution while leading someone to Christ in the manner that he did. "A life of persecution awaits you after your conversion" isn't going to win many to Christ, especially if they don't even know Him.

This is why the scriptures talk about milk and meat (Hebrews 5:12-14). People have to grow into certain aspects of the Christian walk, persecution is one of them. The purpose of discipleship is to feed new converts on milk first and then graduate them to meat. The Bible doesn't use babies as an example for nothing (in regards to spiritual growth). Leading someone to Christ, and the aftermath of raising them, is a growth process. It's not all at once. Todd Friel seemed to ignore this altogether in his advice...

Robin
– Aug 22 2007

Point 5 goes against Revelation 3:20. Christ is waiting for us to accept Him. He already accepted us with His death on the cross, now He stands knocking at our door. When we open the door (or accept his call), He comes in.

Robin
– Aug 22 2007

I feel what you are saying but the point of the metaphor is this that we water down the truth to get people to come to christ we dont have to go to the extreme of saying a life time of persecution this is just my opinion but think of the parable of the sower and the different results of planting his seed if you don't know the what you are getting into goos a strong wind of whatever be it a person persecuting you or temptation and the crop that was yeilded will blow away because while its true we have the victory we still have to contend to keep it so to tell someone jesus will fill a hole or jesus will bring you joy peace and lasting happiness is not the whole truth because when you become a christian you realize not only that the way you were living was wrong but you also see that it was sin against God (conviction) but the first thing the devil does when he comes to attack is to unconvince you of what you been convinced of or convicted of to take away what God freely gives you and if you are not planted correctly or told half truths when this happens you will fall away and then become irresponsive to the people you associate your christianity with because you feel like you were told half truths or lies the thing about the milk. Think of an infant the milk they drink has to have every nutrient it needs to keep them alive. It has to have the same sustenance as meat but in a different texture so it has the same lessons but in a different way it is put forth you get what I am saying for me personally I heard God loves me for most of my life and that I had a hole but I went into the world and despised the people who told me that so I acted out of rebellion. Now i never hated God but I felt like I couldnt trust christians then someone came and threw it to me straight they told me i was a sinner I needed christ they looked at me and really looked at me and said that I was dead! I was offended but it was the truth when i got on board though i was unboard for real and then I became a student of the word and then I realized that me telling people that they had a jesus sized hole (which they do) alone was not enough because even though I can be there to help you with your walk you have to be strong enough when i am not there to remain in the faith. In 1991 a major denomination of 11,500 churches was able to obtain 294,000 decisions for christ unfortunately they could only find 14,000 in fellowship that leaves 280,000 unaccounted for. But I respect you and the way you go about it because there are so many who won't even try so i commend you stay strong in the faith
much love

1. Make Jesus your Lord and Savior.
I agree with this not being accurate only because of the word Make. Jesus is your Savior and he died for you regardless of whether you believe it or not. Let God be true, but every man a liar Roman 3:4.

2. Ask Jesus into your heart.
I do agree that Jesus comes into our hearts. However, you have to let Him in, He will not break in (Behold I stand at the door and knockRev. 3:20). Naturally, if you tell a person to allow Christ in the heart, you have to tell them how (i.e. confess with your mouthbelieve in your heart Romans 10:9)

3. Just believe in Jesus.
I agree with this one not being completely accurate because of the word Just. There is more to it as it pertains to your Christian life. However, throughout life you will find that during many of lifes circumstances you may find yourself Just believing in Jesus when everything (and everyone) else has failed you (Joshua 1:5)

4. You have a God-shaped hole in your heart and only Jesus can fill it.
This may be used depending on the age group of the people it refers to. I taught Toddler age Sunday school and this would be something I would use for them. I could see this being coupled with cutting a hole in a piece of paper and making the shape to fill it. Write Jesus on it and explain it to them. Like I said it depends on the age group. This could really work as a good visual for 4-5 year olds. No Doubt.

I became all things to all men that I might by all means save some I Corinth. 9:22

5. Accept Jesus.
This is kind of along the lines of Allow Christ into you heart/life. In all honesty like I said before, He is not going to knock down the door, YOU have to open it. Obviously, we strive for His acceptance not the other way around.

6. Make a decision for Jesus.
Im not quite sure I understand this one at all.???

7. It is easy to believe.
I definitely dont agree with this one. There is an old saying (dont know if its Biblical or not) that says, If it were easy, everyone would do it. There are still more souls to be saved.

8. God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.
In essence I do agree. Although the Bible tells us that offenses must comeMat 18:7 and many are the affiliations of the righteousPsalm 34:19, it also says things like BUT the Lord delivers him out of them all Psalm 34:19 and all things work together for the good of them that love the LordRom. 8:28. I can understand someone not rejoicing over the fact that they are promised trials and tribulations, however, when you know that you have the victory in Jesus name, even BEFORE you ever fight, COME ON, that is reason for celebration. I know Im glad. Plus, to know that even though things wont always go as I thought, it will still work out for my good as long as I am in covenant connection with the Lord. Thank you, Jesus.

9. Come to Jesus just as you are.
I believe this is important in the sense that I have heard so many people say I cant get saved until I get myself together. When the reality is, YOU cant get YOURSELF together. I think we try too many times to fix things in our lives when we need to just lay them at the feet of the Lord.

10. Come to Jesus and you will receive forgiveness of sins and __________. (fill in the blank with money, health, a healed marriage).
I dont know about this one. However, God does have many promises in the Bible so you better fill the blank with one of them and be able to show me the reference.

11. Come to Jesus and experience love, joy, peace.
I dont see anything wrong with letting a person know what the benefits of salvation are. It is still key to let them know that they must seek FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and then they get their things Matt 6:33. David said bless the Lord oh my soul, and forget NOT all his BENEFITS.Psalm 103. Dont forget.

12. Jesus is the missing piece.
Never heard this one. Definitely off.

13. Jesus is better than fame and fortune.
Frankly, Jesus is better than ______. Just pick anything you want to put in the blank. Sometimes depending on who you are witnessing to (and what they value) you can fill in the blank to help them understand. However, I wouldnt go so far as to say it is insulting. I have actually felt like the words I use during my praise and worship (ex. Hallelujah, wonderful, magnificentetc) dont seem worthy enough. I know they say Hallelujah is the highest praise but sometimes I feel like it is still not enough to express the true magnitude of what a privilege it is the worship the true and living God. I dont really think there are any words that would fit to be compared to Him. However, we have to use what we got OR make up some (I am down for Hallemagniwonderexcellacious God!).

Rev 3:20 in context is NOT speaking about a person "letting Jesus into their hearts." It is actually Christ speaking to the churches. This is a commonly misused verse in evangelism.

Hey all. Well, in response to this, I'm kind of going three ways. Some of them I agree with, others I am not fully sure of their meanings, and still others, I don't neccesarily agree with or see eye to eye with.

Point 4 kind of gets me. I am looking at it like, 'what makes that symbolism so incorrect'? This sort of reminds me of a song done by Da T.R.U.T.H. on his Moment of Truth album. It was the last song (I believe), and at the latter part of it, he talks about how we have an "eternal itch" on our hearts and the only one who can scratch it is Jesus. In the like sense does this statement make its point. We have a hole in our heart, and the only one who can fill it is Jesus.

Point 5 is one of those statements that I am unsure of. On the one hand, the Bible says that we should come to Christ just as we are. On the other hand, though, what is it really called when we get saved? Who really accepted who, or is it mutual, going both ways? This is just one of those things that I need to study more in-depth to gain a better understanding of.

I beg to differ with point 7. Yes, I believe that for some, it can be hard to believe, but I don't believe that that is true for all. I have my own testimony to attest for that. It was not hard for me to believe that Jesus Christ was the Saviour of the world. In my mindset, it was moreso, 'how could anyone not believe'? That is how I looked at it.

Point 8 is the statement that really got me. I believe that our promises as Christians are not solely trials, pains, and temptations. The Bible states that our promise is eternal life (1 John 2:25; James 1:12; Titus 1:1-3; 1Timothy 4:8), the inheritance (Hebrews 9:15), and the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4-5; Luke 1:72-76; Luke 24:49). Complete misery, in my personal beliefs, is not what God totally has in store for His servants while they are on this earth. Basically, what I am saying is, we shouldn't go into Christianity only expecting darkness to loom over our heads. To add, why would someone not think that the plan that God has for them is wonderful? Would they rather think it is awful? Know this, that all things ordained and fashioned by God are awesome, magnificant, and wonderful. We should give God glory for all things that we go through and that we recieve of Him, knowing that they all are there to edify us and make us stronger in this Christian walk.

Point 12, I really don't understand what the speaker is coming from when they comment on the statement "Jesus is the missing piece". The "missing piece" of what? When I find that out, then I will likely comment on it.

Everything else, though, I pretty much agree with, for the most part. Be blessed all. CIAO! GOD BLESS!!

Shoe Making Supplies and Tips

Everyone loves shoe shopping, but what about shoe making? If you've got a little bit of a creative flair, then you might enjoy designing and outlet ugg making shoes. The tools you'll need for a basic pair of shoes are quite simple and readily available. And handmade shoes have the added benefit of being customized for a perfect fit. Here's how to make your own shoes:

Decide on the design. Before you begin, you need to know what you want the finished product to look like. So you need to have a design to follow before you can create a pair of shoes. Take a moment to sketch out your design ideas for the shoe. Consider the overall shape of the shoe as well as the materials you will use.

Construct your shoe upper. The next part of shoe making is a bit ugg stivali open-ended. ugg outlet italia It all really depends on what design you had in mind for your shoe. You need to construct the upper portion of your shoe. You can either create a sandal, a boot, athletic shoes or a basic loafer. In general, a outlet ugg shoe upper is made using a shoe pattern which you can easily make using a shoe last (wooden shoe form). When you create shoes, extend the shoe last to the size of ugg uomo the shoe you're making. First cover the last in fabric or plastic and secure it over the last so that it does not move or budge. Then begin covering the last in masking tape. Use one short strip at a ugg uomo time until the entire last is covered in at least 2 layers of masking tape. Once complete, run a sharp knife along the bottom of the shoe last in order to remove the scarpe ugg masking tape pattern. Trim the pattern down the middle (both front and back) so that the pattern will lay flat. You've just created a shoe pattern.

Use canvas, leather or even fabric to cut two patterns using your masking tape pattern. Remember to flip the pattern over so that you will have both a left and a right foot pattern.
