The life of LeCrae

It’s been a long week!

Whew,  so much in so little time!  I do need prayer in the area of tension, not balance, but a tension between learning, personal holiness, loving others and being a light in society.

What I’ve been up to.

This week I find myself looking at blogs online, some from Mark Driscoll, pastor of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, and also pastors from churches around the country. I’ve been reading the book of Romans with some of the guys I disciple, 1st Peter with my wife, 1st John with men from the church, and 1st Timothy with people in my community bible study. So there are themes of Salvation and Soteriology, submission and persecution, authentic faith, and ecclesiology, or the study of the church running around my head.

What is really on my dome though is that a friend of mine is in South Africa serving the natives out there, while there are thousands of refugees moving to my city who need guidance, wisdom, food, and resources. There has also been 6 murders in my own neighborhood. It’s hard lately to absorb all this truth when you are hurting for the world around you. With a concert every weekend, a family, an album to record, and various other projects to oversee, I feel at times like I am really doing nothing. Still I know that God is growing me and patient while showing me his will and ways.

Praise the Lord!

I am excited at what God is doing with Reach. Trip is preparing to unleash an incredible project that aims to set peoples eyes on a biblical view of our God. The Before You Die gospel tract is being spread throughout the world, and I get to visit some prisons next month.

My Prayer

So my prayer is for a healthy tension between learning understanding the incredibly important doctrine of our faith and being a light to the world.

If anyone has any encouraging ways they have served in the community or missions let me know.

I love yall!

-LeCrae

Man, I feel you man. WIfe, kids, school, work, church, bible study. I thank God for His promise in Col. 3:4. It is only temporary. Thank you guys for your ministry. I had never heard rap that made me want to worship before you guys and Cross Movement. Please, know that your ministry is not in vain as you know. I have been brought to tears by your passion and challenged to tighten my walk up by the word flowing through you. Thank you for putting the word as the content of your music. John 17:17, the word is truth and it sanctifies. Please keep it up and I will truly be praying for you guys.

I first heard your and Trip's music at my friends house. I bought a few of my favorites but then realized I needed them all. I own all your songs. The more I listened the more I learned. I've gone to church for years but it didn't really attack me like your music did. I read more from The Bible and become more with God everyday. Whenever I think about doing something I know is wrong I think of your music. Which in a way is sorta like what would Jesus do. Can't wait for you to release another album, keep writing . I know you always say you want to be invisable and God is acting through you but I appreciate what Jesus does through you.

God Bless
Amen

You ain't lying--this world gets so fast-paced and stressful sometimes. But praise the Lord that He calls us to live in His rest. I'm praying that He grants you whatever it is you may be needing today. And for the record, your work is not in vain. After undergoing a severe depression for three months, I was recently born again. When I first came to Jesus, I mean REALLY came to Jesus, I wasn't willing to let go of my old music; I knew what I was doing was holding me back from having a better relationship with Him, but hip hop made me feel cool and I didnt want to give it up just yet. Then I heard 116 Clique and broke down in tears. I immediately deleted/threw away all the songs about sex, money, drugs, cars, etc. and downloaded what I needed to be listening to from the start. You all have truly helped me feel young and unashamed. So across the miles, I'm a stranger reaching out to let you know that I appreciate what you're doing, LeCrae, and that you've made an impact on my life. May God continue to bless you!

Over the past couple months, the Lord has really used Reach in our little group, Teens For Christ, near Bellingham, WA, as the students and leadership have discovered your ministry.

Please don't burnout -- get the Rest your body and soul need -- we're praying for you. You're a huge inspiration and encouragement to us.

It makes me think of something Paul Washer said, that you don't have to break one command to fulfill another; My brother we all can name the proper priority list but we must truly examine ourselves to see if that's what we are doing. You need only minister in the grace God gives Nuture your wife, live passionately before your children and being mindful of any resentment because of time away (That's crucial; family doesn't get sacrificed). The means of grace must not be erased in the fast pace of this Christian race (pathetic rhyme; I KNOW) ! Considering the men of past who bore the fruit, they were men made in secret (nothing must take from that NOTHING) unless you reject the Sovereignty of God, certainly we're to be useful but never forgetting that we are not needed (I like something Tozer said that too many Christians are admonshed to be laborers before we teach them to be lovers---- ) I don't believe every open door means we need to run through it; consider the most needful things, the most fruitful things. I'm a brother (a young husband and father of five) who has been called to one day lead a flock beyond my family, at present i minister as a chaplain (volunteer-not paid ---I have a 9-5) in a my county jail and work with youth at a youth detention center/// i've also been meeting with my associate pastor in prayer every week crying out for our church--from time to time i'll email my elders with some things i feel need to really be stressed more (theology, a true gospel, God's Glory driven families) my pastor and i often talk of these things, yet there has been offers that i have had to turn down because they would have been busy work and draining on my family---so i wait ;; what is most interesting at the jails is that sometimes you meet people with an unquenchable hunger for truth who want to talk about the word for hours; I've seen the so called youth that can't be reached without media presentations sit and drink in preaching for over an hour and have plenty of questions after (behold the still effective work of the Spirit, without help) and then you also you have to confront the 'jailhouse conversion' mindset by really expounding the truths of regeneration---- even among the most sincere if I was to meet one on one no matter what is discussed i must bring in the full gospel over and over and over again until clear fruit is seen;
In the meantime i feel and would admonish all ministers the great necessity of spiritual discipline (call it delights or opportunities if you like) i really believe I and anyone when asked to what is our secret we could like George Mueller point to just simply using the means of grace, no credit to us, no formula, simply crying out to God to remove us and be exalted in all things; DO IT (all) AS UNTO THE LORD my brother

Hey Man,

You don't know how excited i am right now! I am meeting with a group of guys who are studying the same exact things that you are studying! I mean ALL of them! God is doing something all across the body of Christ right now. He is causing us to reexamine the beliefs and structures that have been handed down to us. And to hear that the Holy Spirit is not only working with some isolated group somewhere...man it really encourages me. These same subjects are burning in the hearts of men and women of God everywhere. I just had a missionary friend from India come down to visit. He and i shared what God has been doing in our respective regions. i found out that we were on the same page...and more importantly, that our brothers around the world need us and we need them. Revelations abound where there is unity and dialogue man. Anyway, i"ma sign off. Keep advancing God's Kingdom in you so that you can advance His Kingdom in the earth. Peace.

I go to church but sometimes it was hard foe me to get in the presence of God. then i would beging to talk to my mom and she would say havve you been reading your word and i would be like no....so long story short i had to keep reading the word of God and when i would attent church service i would strat having conformations and that would just send me into a prasie and worship with God so keep on reading the Word of God ( BiBlE) even if you dont understand. B/C the word says trust in him ( Lord) always and lean not to your own understaning and he will direct your paths!! XOXO

aeh man i feel ya, it somes like you got a heart for your own community, and that passion for the folks in your own streets is growing. Man i do music too, and I love God, i have wrestled with this some time, I think what you feel in your heart is right. The streets, the young people need a voice, a mentor, and we gotta reach them. God got you though dogg, keep doing what you doing, he is helping you now, and giving you eyes to see and compassion for whats on his heart.

I Just stopped in to see what was new on the site. My days are pretty crazy with ministry, work and family, so it is a good break for me to see and hear whats new. I look at the world and see the same things you are seeing and pray God just keep me focused on what you have for me to do. Use me, use me and hopefully I can use my passion that has built up over time to open eyes to you Lord and stop all the negative things that are going on in my community.
Just pray for me brother and I will pray for your strength! Keep spreading His word and ministring through music, both have touched me and I have never met you.

The Apostle Paul, was adamant about his work for the Lord. In 2 Timothy 4:6 he had said he was being poured out as a drink offering. I am truly thankful to our Lord Jesus Christ for your obedience to minister and share the Gospel, you had come to Amarillo, Texas last year and we brought our youth group, the show was great but the Word of God spoken forth was even better, I seen that everyone that attended that night is still in the youth group to God's glory. It set a stage for us as Youth ministers and Sunday school teachers tobe able to really drive home the Gospel message and the importance of the great commision. True family is our first ministry no doubt, but your eternal reward in Christ has no comparison. Your labor was not in vain and until we are in heaven you may not see all the fruit from your labor on this side. I am thankful for the 1st CD Real Talk which introduced me to real Christian Rap music. I know it gets tough but like the Apostle Paul if he did not labor or have the compulsion to share his heart we would not have had the original 13 Letters that Paul wrote under "tension" toils , persecution, and all kinds other trails. With all said dear brother, I am very appreciative to Jesus for your obedience to His ministry. You are truly working as a co-laborer with Christ.

God Bless D Miller.

I am 43 years old and have never listened to any kind of RAP. Growing up, my music of choice was always Rock, but with a more recent turn towards Contemporary Christian. My kids started listening to your After the Music Stops album and asked me to listen to a couple of the songs. I did listen but VERY hesitantly. I am so hooked on your music AND lyrics that I cant get enough. Your message is strong, powerful and what kids and adults need to hear. I read your biography on www.reachrecords.com and was very impressed with what was there. God has blessed you with a wonderful ability and I for one am glad you have put it to use to bring glory to Him. May God continue to bless you in all your endeavors.

I love 116 music not just because it is upbeat, but it has such a good message that is bible based. I love that you all use your talents to give God's name the glory, and not to inflate yourselves. WE need more Christians who are on fire like you guys. I will pray for you and the rest of the 116 clique. I have invited15 of my friends to church and they have really started getting on fire for Christ. That really blessed me because sometimes it feels like I am the only one living for God at my school.YOu guys have inspired me to create S.F.C at my highschool (soldiers for Christ). Please pray for me that the Lord will draw the hearts and minds of the ppl at my school off of worldly things and towards holy things. I will be graduating next year, but before I leave I want to make sure that I do something for God's kingdom before I leave highschool. Thanks, for being a Godly role model!

I have dedicated my life to share Jesus with whomever, whenever. I used to get crunk listening to "Send ME", and I didn't fully understand that the song really meant I needed to go make a more diligent, strategic effort in outreaching in my own city(whether in my city Lord or far abroad!). Thanks Sho for da song "Rebuild the City". Revelation brought Conviction which brought Repentance. Me and my six year old son who is a souled out believer in Christ Jesus hit the streets to outreach a few weeks ago. I went back to the Hood I'm from and spent time talking to teens, hustlers, and whoever about the Truth of Jesus. Seeing the look of hurt in their eyes and the defeat in their body language as I talked to them about the Gospel moved my heart. One brother was in the trap hustlin wit about 2 or 3 other guys when I approached them, and when I tried to hand him a track, he said "Naw cuz, I'm a sinner man, I can't even touch that piece of paper" and he was dead serious. I told him, "Jesus died for us sinners man, He was crucified so that we could be forgiven and be accepted by God. He didn't come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance". He looked at me wit amazement like noone had ever told him that before and he took the track. I'll never forget that look. One person prayed the prayer of repentance with us and others talked and some rejected us. But I am fully persuaded that this is my life's purpose. I even messed around and bumped into a young brother I've been encouraging to be 100% committed to the faith. I thank the Lord that he has used Reach Records/ Reach Life to build me up as a Christian. With every album I am being discipled and sharpened and challenged to deny and die to more of myself, so that more of Christ Jesus can be seen in my life daily. I LOVE IT!

Dear Crae,

I met you at UYWI08 a few weeks ago. I must say, I am very impressed with your energy to reach souls. You lyrics are incredible, your music and beats superb but, the zeal to see souls saved was more encourageing to me than all that I saw. I went to the concert in Orlando just to see your witness once again. The importance you put on your time spent with the crowd about living for God was awesome. The way you reached out and reached for is a clear message why you have named the Ministry REACH LIFE. God has a great anointing and a great testimony for you and all that are involved in your ministry. I am very impressed to say the least and expect GREAT Things in store for you and your family. It was so nice meeting you and seeing your humbleness and love for people. Thank you for representing Jesus the way you do.
You are in my prayers daily. You, your family, and ministry.

LeCreezy,
I've been working full time, crafting my second album, filming commercials and independent films while auditioning for others, and writing scripts. But the really real is I just finished Genesis in family worship and we're moving on to Matthew. Continuing to memorize scripture with my family and joining a new church. Living holy is always the focus, but I feel like I need to get out and evangelize more. I'm so worried about me and mine, that I forget the lost. So keep your head up and your mouth open. When you going city to city, just be reminded: They need Jesus, and they might only hear it from you.

I have been wrestling with kind of the same things as you man. I work with at-risk youth for 40-45 hrs a week, which is awesome. I work for a Rescue Mission, which is a Christian organization, so I get to teach kids about the gospel. I also am taking a summer internship with the college that I will graduate from next year, so I have papers to write and books to read. I also have atleast 20 books on my list for books I want to read. I am also going through Joshua, Psalms, Isaiah, and 1 Timothy. Plus I am trying to begin learning Greek. I also do some street evangelism, but I wish I did more. Plus, I live with my grandfather who is dying and I wish I could spend more time with him. I also have friends who I am trying to mentor and help grow in their love and knowledge of God. There is also so much more I want to get involved in. Man, sometimes I get frustrated because I can't get to everything I want to. I guess God wants us to realize that it's all really Him working through each of us, because it would be impossible for us to accomplish anything on our own. I appreciate what your doing man. Keep living for Jesus.

I am with you LaCrae. Just know that the Lord has called you do a great work for His GLORY. And in all that he would have us to as His children the beauty is in the service of making a difference in a lost world. Just know you have brothers and sisters feeling you and your thoughts. To God be the Glory.

Sometimes the pain of this world is overwhelming. I was in South AFrica. One family we visited grabbed my heart. A single mother left with her three boys, her husband had been shot, she was struggling beyond emotions and finances, to spiritually, to put her boys in college. And i couldnt help but retreat to my room and weep. The pastor talked with me, it was so important our intercession when the Lord draws us to. It's so easy to look around with our physical eyes and the wisdom we know, and judge our own 'spiritual contributions'. But seeds planted grow into trees. And in the spirit realm more happens then we can sometimes feel and see. I know the heavens open when amongst all things, we drop on our knees and lift up all things to him. Be bless fam.

I feel what you saying bro; I know how it feels to juggle with all these responsibilities and still have to be effective in ministry. At times it gets very frustrating when trying your very best to reach out to an area and then another area falls behind because help is not there or the WORD of GOD is not present to fix the problems. Then you have of course the family that you need to provide for, and the community you live in to serve. So how can we deal with all this??? God said he will never leave or forsake us: which means, out of no where an unbelievable strength and courage will show up so that we can keep on moving and running the race. Just trust in his word and he will see you through. Let me tell you how good God is to those who are faithful to him. About 3 months ago my car got stolen from the driveway, I didnt get mad or start fusing I went to the Lord in Prayer and prayed NOT for me but for the individual who stole my car. Guess what? 5 hours later God blessed me with a BRAND NEW CAR, Everything paid in full even the insurance till 2009, not one dime came out of my pocket. Funny thing, its the EXACT SAME CAR, just a NEWER MODEL Hold on to the Promises of God and he will see you through. READ Jer.33:3, thats my favorite bible verse God Bless

I pray that God will annoint your music and that maybe we can use it for our concert ministry. Thanks!

Keith Mathison's book revolutionized the way I think about the Table years ago. It's an eclelxent read. I highly recommend it. It's called Give for You: Reclaiming Calvin's Doctrine of the Lord's Supper. For Calvin (and I believe the biblical view as well), the Table was not just a memorial, but it was the gift of Christ's actual Body and Blood. As Mathison rightly notes, throughout Christian history, there were disputes over the *nature* of the Lord's presence in the Table, but that presence was never denied until Zwingli in the Reformation. The apostle calls the Table a participation in the Body and Blood of Christ . He also argues that we are to be in unity with one another as we partake. I see the Table as very much connected to the Word, in the same way that, when a husband and wife take their marriage vows (analogous to the Word), their vows are sealed and renewed every time they join in physical union in the act of making love (analogous to the Lord's Table). The Table, therefore, Calvin rightly saw as very much connected to our union with Christ. It strengthens our union with Christ, and, since we are the Body of Christ, with each other as fellow believers. It would hardly make sense to partake of the Table with someone we are at odds with, even as it would hardly make sense to partake of the act of making love with our spouse if we were at odds with him/her.So, to neglect this great and mysterious sacrament is also to neglect one's soul. Imagine if a husband and a wife hung out all the time, talked, enjoyed one another's company, but only made love once a year. Or once a quarter. Or once every 2 months. Or even once a month. They are missing out on a great blessing the blessing of a stronger and closer union and unity with one another.Although Calvin believed that the elements remain bread and wine, he also truly believed that we receive the real and proper and natural Body and Blood of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Belgic Confession of Faith, I believe, does well in wording this mysterious truth as well. It is also found in the Westminster Confession of Faith (although not as developed), as well as the London Baptist Confession of Faith, as well as the Anglican Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion. So, Calvin's view of the real and spiritual presence of Christ in the Table won the day at the Reformation. Luther's view differed from his, but it would be wrong to think that Calvin was closer to Zwingli than to Luther. Calvin, along with Luther, condemned Zwingli's view. He was much closer to Luther than to Zwingli. It is not quite correct to say that Calvin was a middle road between Luther and Zwingli. ***In fact, Calvin and the other Reformers believed that Zwingli was no different than Rome, in that Rome, in that, for Zwingli, the Table was something that *we did* to remind ourselves of what Christ had done to obey God; just like in Rome it is something the people do for God.*** But both Luther and Calvin rightly saw the Table as a gift as something that *God* does for us in Christ. And all of the above is only a quick glimpse into the riches of Calvin's view! I am convinced that Calvin's view was the biblical view as well. I highly suggest Mathison's book, and Robert Letham's quick book as well called The Lord's Supper: Eternal Word in Broken Bread. Thanks for bringing this eclelxent discussion up! I hope you are blessed as you see the gift of the Lord's Supper for what it is.
